MAORIOKE 2006
Maori Televisions popular entertainment series Maorioke is back on the road throughout July and August in search of more local talent for the new series. Produced by Mauri Ora Productions Ltd, the third series of Maorioke will again provide the opportunity for singers from all over New Zealand to gain national television exposure and production experience.
Maorioke first went to air on Maori Television in
2003. Fronted by singer/song writers Brannigan
Kaa and Ruia Aperahama, series one featured seventy
Maori contestants performing in music videos at well
known landmarks and locations around the motu.
Ten finalists then took to the stage to perform in
front of a live audience and judges, with Tamehana Campbell
of Whanganui the eventual winner.
In 2005 a second series of Maorioke hit the airwaves. Co-presented this time by Brannigan Kaa and Whirimako Black, the show proved a ratings winner with audiences on Maori Television. Toni Baird of Wellington emerged from the finals to take the title of Maorioke Toa for 2005. Both Tamehana and Toni got the opportunity to record an original song and produce a music video.
The new series of Maorioke in 2006 will see a number of changes to both the presentation and style of the show. Joining the resident judging panel of Brannigan Kaa and Whirimako Black will be Betty-Anne Monga, better known as the lead singer of Ardijah.
Taking over presenting duties will be co-hosts Fiona Apanui
formerly of Mai Time and first time presenter Te Raumawhitu
Kupenga. The other main difference of interest to potential
singers all over the country is the criteria for eligibility
to appear on the show has been broadened to include all
New Zealanders of any age.
The prizes up-for-grabs in Maorioke 2006 will include a:
"Cash Prize, Various Cool Products and
a Recording Deal"
SO IF U CAN SING,
MAORIOKE WANTS U!
